Thank you for making it possible to keep serving the people of Haiti in this time of great need. You did this by helping ESMI meet the financial goal set last week.

To the right is a map of Haiti. It shows the island's southern peninsula with the three departments/states that were affected by the earthquake: #10-Sud (LesCayes); #3-Grand'Anse (Jeremie); and #4-Nippes(Miragoane). Les Cayes is the most populated and developed of the three; thus the significant impact and loss of lives. The need for continued relief of food, water, medicine, and shelter is evident. Thank you for allowing ESMI to remain focused on this effort of distributing food, medicine, and caring for our brothers and sisters.

Nippes Church and Community LeadersThe smallest of the three departments is Nippes which is said to be the epicenter of the quake. On Monday, ESMI met with 48 of the church and community leaders. They were happy to see an NGO in their community. The city is small and has a few buildings, some affected by the quake and some still standing. But into the hills, there is hardly anything left standing upright. ESMI PurchaseWhatever crops they had, if the earthquake did not destroy it, the flooding from Tropical Storm Grace did. Thank you for allowing ESMI to be an encouragement to brothers and sisters in Nippes.

Because you gave so generously, today, ESMI purchased 500 bags of 50 lb rice, 250 bags of 50 lb corn, 200 bags of 50lb wheat, 200 bags of spaghetti and 500 gallons of oil. These were packed into a 36-ft truck and delivered to a city in Nippes. There is a pastoral association that will oversee this distribution. Prayers needed as they participate in this relief effort. Boumier Tent HomesThis is week two into the earthquake relief. The needs are still overwhelming and each day presents new problems and challenges. For example, today there was no gas in Les Cayes, so we journeyed to the next city and waited for about two hours, in line, to get gasoline. As we drove toward Nippes, we came to a community called Boumier Commune Laurent. What you see behind me are lines of "homes" made with sheets, tarps and sticks. This community has a "board" or association. Because you gave, ESMI gave the leadership "board" food and money for water, charcoal, and spices. With these being the new "homes" for many, in the peak of hurricane season, pray with us that God will hold back the tropical storms or hurricanes.

Truck CrossingTomorrow, Lord willing, we will head over to Jeremie where a new set of problems await us. You may recall that the bridge that leads into Jeremie was damaged by the quake. This is making it difficult for food supplies to get across. Here is a truck carrying supplies of food trying to cross the river. That didn't work well. So what is being done now is the supply trucks will stop on one side of the bridge and there will be another vehicle waiting on the other side. Food supplies are unloaded little by little unto a 3-wheel moto-taxi and taken across the bridge to unload supplies into the other waiting vehicle. While this may be a "safer" way than the trucks crossing the bridge, it is working out to be expensive to carry the food across. Each trip across on the moto-taxi has its fee. We are hearing of hungry people getting very angry and violent. Pray with us for our brothers and sisters in Jeremie.

GO MissionsPraise & Prayer Requests

  • GO Ministries in Santiago, Dominican Republic, sent the remaining 3000lbs of medication yesterday for Les Cayes; a total of 6000lbs. Already these are being distributed to different hospitals and urgent care centers. Many thanks to so many in the Dominican Republic who made this possible and to Agape for doing the flight.
  • Tomorrow GO Ministries will send 3000lbs of medicine to Jeremie, the first of two shipments. This will be a blessing to the General Hospital and surrounding clinics in Jeremie.
  • Thankful to Feed My Starving Children and Food for the Poor for the two containers of food.
  • Continue to pray for our Haitian brothers and sisters working hard on the frontline to bring relief, as well as for the many NGOs on ground in Les Cayes. God's strength for the long journey ahead to rebuild.
  • Pray for the US medical team of 8 heading to Les Cayes next week.
  • Continue to pray for the nightly conference at Bon Berger Church in downtown Les Cayes. We praise God for the four who came to know Jesus as their Savior on Monday night.

Once again, thank you for partnering with ESMI in serving our brothers and sisters in Haiti in such a time as this. Continue to trust God with us to meet the overwhelming and desperate needs that are not only physical but also spiritual. To God be the glory!
